New York City Music - Live Music VenuesKavehazA coffeehouse and bar with free jazz and seats for one and all.
The SceneNamed for the Hungarian term for "coffeehouse," this Soho spot serves renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain Estate coffee, as well as frozen cocktails, beer, milkshakes, smoothies, a tempting display of pretty pastries and simple cafe food until a half hour before closing. Live Dixieland, Latin and other jazz genres fill the space, which also serves as a sprawling gallery for artists, often with a musical focus. The DrawA comfy spot for groups, especially when some want to eat and some don't, and a place where even non-drinkers feel at home. Daters looking to converse with some background sounds can sit farther from the stage and talk over a pot of chocolate fondue, without feeling rude to the musicians or those there for the jazz alone. There's never a cover, so drop in a few when the bucket goes 'round. Lazy AfternoonsCatch lunch and a Saturday set from 2:30pm to 5:30pm, or go Sunday from 4pm to 7pm. Like It LatinHit the bar Wednesday between 8:30pm and 12am for Latin jazz, usually with Ray Vega. 37 W 26 St |
