New York City Music - Live Music VenuesBlueLady LoungeUptown lounge featuring ocean-fresh shellfish and easy-listening jazz.
The SceneThe name of this lounge sounds like something out of a Raymond Chandler detective novel, but ignore the dark porthole-windowed door and narrow blue awning that seem to mark its entrance; the only secret about the BlueLady is that you have to walk through Shelly's--the restaurant that houses it--to get in. Up the stairs from a bustling dining room, it's not quite clandestine, but the dim lighting, vibrant paintings from nearby galleries and live jazz vocalist perched above the bar like a jewelry-box ballerina build up the art-deco flair. The DrawThe jazz is smooth and non-intrusive, a background for conversation rather than an attention-grabbing stage show. Entertain yourself further with highlights from the Shelly's raw bar, but if stone crabs or littleneck clams don't jive with your passion fruit-infused Manhattan, check out the calamari, fried with spicy cherry peppers. Keep Your Suit OnShimmying about in their black halter dresses, the club's waitresses don't balk at blue jeans. But since the after-work crowd tends to show up in business attire on weeknights, you may want to do the same. 104 W 57th St |
